Stanbic Bank Uganda has donated Information and Communication Technology (ICT) equipment worth Shs30 million to Ikafe Police Training School in Yumbe District to strengthen digital skills training for police recruits.
The equipment, donated under the bank’s employee-led community initiatives during its Love Month activities, will support training in digital systems, information management and technology-enabled policing.
Damoni Kitabire, Chairperson of the Board of Directors at Stanbic Bank Uganda, said technology was increasingly central to effective policing, particularly in areas facing complex security challenges.
“Modern policing is increasingly driven by technology. Officers serving in this region require the digital skills and tools needed to respond effectively to today’s evolving security challenges,” Kitabire said.
He noted that Yumbe’s strategic location along the South Sudan border makes institutional capacity important for maintaining security, facilitating trade and supporting economic activity.
Kitabire said the donation also addresses digital infrastructure gaps between institutions in remote areas and those in urban centres, giving police recruits access to resources needed for modern law enforcement.
Senior Superintendent of Police James Okabo Okello, head of Ikafe Police Training School, welcomed the contribution, saying the institution had trained more than 1,000 young men and women and currently had over 150 trainers.
He said the school continued to expand its capacity to support police training and the welfare of recruits and staff.
“With this kind of support, modern policing is going to become the standard of our operations because we now have the tools and capacity to make it possible,” Okello said.
Rita Apell, Stanbic Bank’s Chief Information Officer, said the initiative was driven by employees from the bank’s Information Technology team, who mobilised funds to purchase the equipment.
She said the contribution demonstrated how teamwork could deliver meaningful benefits to communities.
The donation forms part of Stanbic Bank Uganda’s broader Corporate Social Investment programme, which prioritises education and skills development. It also supports Sustainable Development Goals on quality education and decent work and economic growth.
Kitabire said the investment would benefit successive generations of police recruits, strengthening digital capacity and public service delivery.
The contribution comes as Stanbic Bank Uganda marks 35 years of serving the country under Standard Bank Group, reaffirming its commitment to national development through partnerships with public institutions.
