MTN Mobile Money (U) Limited has launched a nationwide financial literacy campaign seeking to promote responsible use of digital credit and encourage customers to build stronger borrowing and repayment habits.
The campaign, unveiled in Kampala on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, is running under the tagline “Borrow. Pay Back. Neela Neela.” It is intended to help customers understand how responsible use of MoMo Loans can support their financial needs while improving their prospects of accessing credit in future.
The campaign targets individuals, traders, farmers, agents, merchants and other small businesses that use MTN MoMo services.
MTN MoMo said the campaign will focus on helping customers understand the importance of borrowing within their means, repaying loans consistently and maintaining a good credit record.
According to the company, customers who develop good repayment habits can benefit from increased loan limits and improved credit scores, which can strengthen their access to future borrowing opportunities.
Jemima Kariuki, MTN MoMo Uganda Chief Product Officer, said digital credit should provide customers and businesses with opportunities to meet financial needs and pursue growth.
“At MTN MoMo, we believe access to credit should unlock real value for the people and businesses we serve,” Kariuki said.
She said MoMo Loans provide customers with fast and convenient credit that can be used to manage emergencies, meet everyday financial obligations and pursue new opportunities.
For agents and merchants, Kariuki said the facilities can provide working capital to support liquidity, purchase stock, maintain business operations and facilitate growth.
“Through this campaign, we are highlighting these advantages while encouraging responsible borrowing, consistent repayment and long-term credit discipline across all our loan segments,” she said.
MTN MoMo provides digital credit through its MoMo Loan Marketplace and dedicated loan segments serving consumers, agents and merchants.
The products are designed to provide financing to a wide range of customers, including individuals, traders, farmers, agents, merchants and MSMEs who may not always be fully served by traditional financial institutions.
The financial literacy campaign seeks to complement this access by helping customers understand the obligations associated with borrowing and how their repayment behaviour can affect future access to credit.
MTN MoMo has built the campaign around three key messages: repay on time, borrow again and maintain a good repayment record to improve your credit score.
The company said the messages are intended to encourage customers to develop a consistent borrowing and repayment cycle and continue benefiting from digital credit.
The campaign will be rolled out through television, radio, digital platforms, social media and community activations over the coming months.
Through these channels, customers will receive practical information on responsible borrowing, timely repayment and the appropriate use of MoMo Loans.
The initiative is part of MTN MoMo’s broader financial inclusion efforts, which seek to expand access to financial services while equipping users with the knowledge needed to make informed financial decisions.
The company said improved financial literacy can help customers use digital credit more effectively and avoid borrowing decisions that could undermine their financial wellbeing.
For small businesses, access to appropriately managed working capital can support stock purchases and business continuity, while individuals can use credit to manage emergencies and other financial needs.
MTN MoMo said the campaign is ultimately aimed at helping customers make digital credit a useful financial tool by combining access with discipline.
The company believes that responsible borrowing and consistent repayment can strengthen customers’ credit profiles and help more Ugandans use digital financial services to support financial stability and business growth.
