In honor of the International Day for Women and Girls in Science, Coca-Cola Beverages Uganda (CCBU) is spotlighting the contributions of women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
Through its Women in Leadership program, CCBU is recognizing accomplished women who are actively participating in the fields of STEM, as highlighted in a press release distributed yesterday.
Catherine Gita, Director of People and Culture at CCBU, emphasized the program’s objective of fostering leadership among talented women through training and support.
Gita said, “CCBU acknowledges the vital role women play in shaping the future of STEM. As an organization committed to innovation and sustainability, we are dedicated to addressing gender imbalances in STEM through various initiatives.”
A 2014 government report revealed a concerning trend of fewer girls passing biology and mathematics exams in Uganda.
The Gender in Education Policy of 2018 aims to address this disparity by encouraging more girls to pursue science education and enhancing STEM teaching practices.
CCBU’s program aligns with this goal by striving to narrow the gender gap and promote female representation in leadership positions, particularly within STEM-related departments.
Among the notable women recognized for their outstanding contributions to STEM are Doreen Namuyiga, a Quality Assurance Technologist ensuring CCBU’s products meet rigorous standards, and Barbra Namanyi, a Raw Materials Planner optimizing procurement and inventory management using data analytics and supply chain principles.
Barbra’s journey in STEM began with a passion for problem-solving, illustrating the diverse opportunities within these fields.
Anisha Namugabo, a Quality Controller, envisions a future where every girl has equal access to STEM opportunities.
CCBU emphasizes that these women exemplify innovation, resilience, and empowerment within STEM, reflecting the company’s commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion in the industry.
