NCBA Bank expands Golf Series 2024 to Jinja, boosts sustainability with tree planting

The elite sport was hosted in Jinja on Saturday – Aug.3

On August 3, NCBA Bank, in partnership with the Jinja Golf Club, brought the NCBA Golf Series to Jinja, aiming to inspire excellence within Uganda’s golfing community.

The bank also used the event to highlight its extensive sustainability efforts to address climate change and safeguard Uganda’s natural environments by encouraging golfers to plant 100 trees along the golf course.

Now in its fourth annual edition, the NCBA Golf Series is poised to be more exciting and expansive than ever. The series, covering golf clubs in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda, is set to reinforce its status as East Africa’s premier golfing event.

NCBA Bank’s CEO, Mark Muyobo, stated, “Today, we celebrate greatness. Our strong support for golf is driven by our belief in greatness, which motivates everything we do. We urge all participants to keep striving for excellence as we advance through this thrilling Series.”

He noted that while the tournament has previously been held only in Kampala and Entebbe, it is now expanding to Jinja Club to engage more golfers nationwide and foster the development of the sport, aligning with NCBA’s dedication to regional sports development and community empowerment.

Winners of the Golf Series will have the chance to win an all-expenses-paid trip to Nairobi for the NCBA Golf Series Grand Finale, where they will compete against players from Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda.

“Both the male and female winners of the NCBA Golf Series will be flown to Nairobi for the Grand Finale in November. This opportunity will allow them to test their skills against regional competitors and further enhance their game,” Muyobo said.

He also emphasized that through the NCBA “Change the Story” initiative, the bank’s flagship sustainability project, NCBA aims to reduce its climate impact while executing a comprehensive tree planting program. As part of this initiative, golfers in the NCBA Golf Series planted 100 trees at the Jinja Golf Course.

“Tree planting is crucial for combating climate change and preserving natural ecosystems. Our tree-growing efforts provide significant and enduring benefits, such as carbon sequestration, employee engagement, and community empowerment,” Muyobo added.

Muyobo urged Ugandan golfers to maintain their passion for the sport while addressing the challenges posed by climate change, advocating for solutions that protect and restore nature.
