Nile Breweries Limited (NBL) has announced Adu Rando as the new Country Director for Uganda, replacing David Valencia, who has served in the same position for the last two years.
Rando has been part of the AB-InBev for the last twenty years, having served in Brazil, China and most recently, Tanzania in different capacities.
He was unveiled at a news conference at the company’s headquarters in Luzira, Kampala today (Feb.02) by the outgoing CD and MD (Valencia) and the company’s Legal and Corporate Affairs, Onapito Ekomoloit.
Rando said: “This is an enormous responsibility that I am honoured and privileged to hold. Working in Uganda with the leading brewer and the support of a competent team is a great opportunity for me personally and professionally.”
He has extensive experience in sales, operations, digital sales systems platforms, e-commerce, sales structure and process optimization. His long sales and operations experience in different channels on three large and diverse continents and his unique expertise in driving technological change across markets have provided him with a solid base for the present leadership job as Country Director for Uganda.
On his part, Ekomoloit welcomed Rando and applauded the outgoing MD for the good leadership that has kept the company thriving amidst COVID-19 disruptions and related economic challenges.
Rando joins the company at a time a section of legislators spearheaded by the Tororo District Woman Representative, Hon. Sarah Opendi are pushing for the passing of the Alcohol Control Bill 2022 – mainly to restrict consumption and sale of alcoholic products.
However, Ekomoloit and Rando said, in the meantime, they will engage with the government and other stakeholders to promote responsible drinking while hoping that this Bill does not pass.
The outgoing MD – Valencia has been elevated to the role of Commercial Strategy Director, Africa Zone for AB – InBev, Nile Breweries’ parent company – and will be based in South Africa.
